Cyprus Drink – Brandy Sour

We decided to mix it up a bit this time and instead of a traditional dessert, we opted for the national drink of Cyprus — the Brandy Sour! This refreshing cocktail is perfect for sitting in the Cyprus sun and taking in the local flavours.

We used a recipe from Drinks of the World which also explains the origin of the brandy sour in the Troodos mountains, which we were lucky enough to visit on our last trip. Who says cocktails can’t be educational?!

Brandy sour ingredients

Essentially it’s a combination of brandy, lemon squash, a few drops of Angostura bitters, and topped up with soda water. The ratio is simple: 2 parts brandy to 1 part lemon squash.

The result is a light, refreshing and tangy cocktail that is dangerously easy to drink. It was a wonderful reminder of sitting in the warm Cyprus evenings!

Brandy sour final

If you’ve ever been to Cyprus and had one of these, you’ll know exactly what we mean. And if you haven’t — this is a very good reason to visit!

Let us know if you give the brandy sour a try.
